Pentridge, Dorset - The Village and School

According to my grandfather's "Teacher’s Certificate", from 1893 until 1895, he was the Head Teacher at Pentridge National School; his first such position. Unfortunately, the certificate only gives the years so I am researching to see what documents may have survived taht will give more detail.

While in Pentridge, my grandfather produced a few sketches of the school building, the school house, and some of the surrounding area. Knowing nothing about Pentridge, I joined a Dorset Family History mailing list ("eng-dorset-life", hosted by "Rootsweb") on the Internet to see what others might suggest as to where it would be best to search next and had a great deal of help. One person on the list, an Alan Warren, was good enough to take many photographs of buildings, etc., in and around Pentridge. After over a hundred years, however, it was difficult for Alan and me to associate my grandfather's sketches with buildings that were still standing but we managed in the case of a few.

One of the sketches we failed to locate was the "Fowl House" but, I suppose, that's understandable!
