Postcard from Shanklin - 1905

|
The identity of the correspondents here are in question. Whilst there is a 'Jeanie'in our family, the age means that it cannot be her. Also, the identity of the Mrs Newport is also in question, but, it is felt that is would be 'Grandma Newport - staying with either Owen or Oswald - or one of their wives. Most probably the first option' Newport, M.L - 1. (2026).
The following is a transcription of the text on the back of the card (Brady, S - 1, (2026)):
The Laurels, Hope Road, Friday
Will come and give you back your umbrella when I am back
Dear Mrs Newport
We are having a perfect time and lovely weather. Must tell you the (?) Susie is engaged to a Shanklin boy- she is going to be married in January.
Kind regards to Mr Newport love Jeannie
The stamp is the image is a Great Britain King Edward VII one peny stamp, which was in circulation during his reign, specifically the period of 1902 to 1910. The specific stamp pictured has a cancellation mark indicating it was used on March 4, 1905. (Brady, S - 1, (2026))
